I founded Art First Business Services in response to my own experience running a creative business. My journey began in the art world where I started a gallery and launched one of the first e-commerce art websites with over a 1000 works—all on a shoestring budget. Needless to say, I spent countless sleepless nights worrying about finances and not knowing where to find answers. The cost of a CFO was beyond my means and my accountant was unable to help, except with yearly tax returns, which were always an unpleasant surprise. I had no one to set up the appropriate accounts suited to my business or provide forecasting or general reporting, let alone cash flow projections for potential investors.
Over the next few years, I took it upon myself to learn financial management, which ultimately led to the founding of Art First Business Services and its mission to support creative professionals through every phase of their business from start-up to final sale and everything in between. Now, with over twenty years’ experience, I have worked almost exclusively with creative businesses. I’ve been CFO at a number of creative advertising agencies and worked with numerous TV and video production companies as well as successful photographers, artists, animators, filmmakers, interior designers and fashion designers. Having operated business entities in the US, UK and the UAE as well as working with clients from across the globe, I have a strong understanding of international financial systems.
